Describe the damage to a restoration provider. Confirm availability and assessment charges.

Start with the company and the proposed work

Before authorizing restoration, confirm the receiving company’s identity, whether it handles your damage and location, and what its assessment will cost. Ask for the proposed scope and payment terms in writing. You can call a restoration provider to discuss the damage without completing a form.

Ask for evidence of qualifications

Ask which qualifications apply to the work and how you can verify any license, certification, or insurance the company claims. Confirm whose name appears on the estimate and who will perform the work, including any subcontractors. This website does not certify or vet providers. Verify any qualifications directly before authorizing work.

Confirm availability and assessment charges

Ask when the provider could assess the property, whether that time is confirmed, and whether inspection, travel, emergency, or minimum charges apply. A phone conversation does not establish an arrival time until the provider agrees to one. Use the before-visit questions to record the arrangement.

Compare scope before comparing totals

Ask which rooms and materials are included, how drying will be monitored, and whether cleaning, disposal, and rebuilding are separate. Confirm how additional work must be approved. The free estimate comparison tool helps organize two written quotes; it does not judge contractor quality or price fairness.

Keep the agreement and records

Ask who handles questions during the job and what photos, moisture readings, invoices, and completion records you will receive. Ask your insurer directly about coverage and documentation. Keep copies of the estimate, changes you approve, and the receiving company’s contact details. For a managed building, use the free property-manager packet.
